Workshops on the use of computers, legal and fiscal matters, and tips to help other advisers at your school be more successful will be presented. Attendees will have an opportunity to network with the best minds in student leadership training from across the country as they participate in enjoyable sessions and activities. Tentative Program & Schedule

Thursday December 4 - PRE CONFERENCE ACTIVITY

Our Pre‐Conference Activity will help you get to know the other attendees and provide a better overall conference experience. Spend a day sharing ideas with other advisers while you tour San Diego. Begin your day by taking the Trolley from the hotel to the waterfront where you’ll grab your boxed lunch and board the boat for your two hour cruise of San Diego Bay. While you enjoy the sights, you’ll meet other advisors and get learn their best ideas. After the cruise, take a short walk to the Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum (www.midway.org) as you continue to meet and share.

At the end of your self‐guided tour of the Midway, walk a few more blocks along the Bay and visit Seaport Village (www.seaportvillage.com). Ride the Carousel, grab a snack, visit the Magic Shop, and pick up souvenirs and unique gifts to take home. Dinner is on your own at Seaport Village, one of the restaurants beside the water, or take the Trolley to Old Town (www.oldtownsandiegoguide.com) or the Gaslamp Quarter (www.gaslamp.org) before boarding the trolley again to take you back to the hotel. Bring your jacket, your camera, and the answers to the ten questions we’ll provide to share with others.

Or take a trip to Horton Plaza in Downtown San Diego (www.westfield.com/hortonplaza). They also have wonderful shopping and good places to eat, but if you’re going to shop, bring an extra suitcase or some tape so you can ship your purchases home.

San Diego Zoo. The World Famous San Diego Zoo awaits - see the animals and enjoy the special events. Take the Polar Bear Plunge, See the Panda Bears, Visit Tiger River, The Owens Rain Forest Aviary, and don’t forget the monkeys and apes. See it from the Aerial Tram, the Zoo Train, or the top of a double decker bus! You’ll find more information at www.sandiegozoo.org.

Balboa Park. Visit lots of museums and beautiful gardens - even in December! Art, Photography, Air and Space, San Diego History, Sports, Trains, Natural History, Automobiles and Motorcycles all have a museum in Balboa Park. More information can be found at www.balboapark.org.

Sea World. As long as you’re on the Pacific Ocean, why not plan a trip to Sea World for their famous shows. Penguins, whales, dolphins and other animals all have their own habitat at this world famous park. For more information, chick on www.seaworld.com/sandiego.

Mexico. Get a group together and take the Trolley from the hotel to the end of the line in San Ysidro. From there you can walk across the border to Tijuana, Mexico. Don’t forget your passport - you’ll need it to get back into the United States!

Weather

December in San Diego is like any other month in San Diego - beautiful. Expect a lot of sunshine - San Diego experiences it an average of 70-75 percent of the the time in December. The average daily high temperature in early December is 66-70 degrees, and the average low is 48-52 degrees. If you convert these numbers to Celsius (high 20, low 10) it is STILL higher than Minneapolis. In other words, DO NOT expect to see a repeat of last year's snow! In fact snow has only fallen once in San Diego during the month of December - on December 18, 1967 the total accumulation was a half inch. It stayed on the ground a full forty minutes. In fact, the last December day in which the daily temperature dropped below 32 degrees was back in the years B.E. (before Earl) - 1891.

More Questions?

If you need additional information, contact Genel by e-mail at genel@nawd.com, or for immediate answer call (760) 376-3218.  Please remember that Genel is in California, which means that 8:00 a.m. in New Hampshire is a whole lot earlier on the West Coast.  You can call super early, but don’t expect an answer that makes any sense.  On the other hand, you can probably call until 2:00 a.m. from New Hampshire and get a reasonably coherent person on the other end of the phone.

If you need to reach Peter Cahn, please e-mail him at pcahn@cada1.org.
